Call for Papers
2012 ANNUAL MEETING AND TECHNICAL SESSIONS
OMNI Downtown
Austin, Texas
April 1-4, 2012
The Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists is actively soliciting paper offers for its 2012 Annual Meeting and Technical Sessions. Papers reporting on studies concerning any aspect of asphalt paving technology or related fields are considered for presentation and publication in the prestigious AAPT Journal. These can include research, design, construction and maintenance issues dealing with all types of asphalt cement, asphalt mixtures and pavement applications, including innovative ideas as well as improvements to current practice. Papers offering a practical approach of interest to industry personnel will be particularly welcomed.
All papers will be subjected to a very thorough process to evaluate and rank papers based on peer reviews. Five reviews are requested for each paper. One Board member is assigned to each paper to evaluate and summarize the reviews and rankings provided by each reviewer and to provide an independent evaluation of the paper in cases where there is significant variation in rankings and/or review comments. The Board then meets to discuss each paper in detail to achieve the most consistency possible among reviewers and to achieve a consensus ranking among the papers submitted.
Because of publication constraints, only a finite number of papers (usually between 20 and 25, depending on length) are accepted for publication. Final selection is made strictly on the basis of the final ranking. Papers that did not rank highly enough are not accepted. The decision to not accept is final and there is no further opportunity for authors to address reviewer comments and/or improve their papers for possible publication.
NEW Please note the following changes from prior years:
- Authors have the option to submit either a Refereed Conference Paper or a Refereed Journal Paper.
- Authors have the option of allowing their paper to be re-categorized based on reviewer comments.
- The following documents, which are enclosed with this Call for Papers, provide additional details regarding the new paper category options:
- AAPT Author Submission Form
- AAPT Brochure Announcing the Introduction of Two Paper Category Options
- At final printing, papers will be clearly identified either as a Conference Paper or Journal Paper.
- There are several format changes. Please see Instructions to Authors.
The annual meeting is attended by specialists from academia, research organizations, material producers, contractors, National and State authorities and consultants from around the world.
The papers offered for the 2012 Annual Meeting can be submitted through the AAPT website (http://aapt.acamedics.com), which will be available from May 1, 2011. The deadline for submitting papers is August 1, 2011.
